Replayability
Hello,

I love city builders and have played a ton of them over the last 2 decades.
Today, I read everything I could find about this very beautiful and interesting looking game and I just downloaded the demo. Can´t wait to try this out tomorrow.

There are so many games in this genre out there, and many are very similar. However, my hope is - after my research today, that this one offers something new and different - with the deep simulation of nature and wildlife. Furthermore, the interaction between multiple settlements in different biomes, with different products/ressources. Not many games provide this, except from Anno.

So, right now I try to convince myself, that it would absolutely be a good idea, to buy one more citybuilder :-)

Before I do so, I wonder a bit about the game´s replayability.
As I understand it, the maps are not procedurally generated. So, the start map will always look the same, is that correct?
The Steam reviews show however, that many people obviously put a lot of hours into this game. I assume, this shows some level of replayability -
and I am curious now, where the replayability comes from in Of Life and Land?

As I am personally not very good replaying games, when the start more or less remains the same. I would need some motivation for a new approach when replaying.

And second question:
What about the amount of ressources and goods - can someone give a rough estimation how many different goods the villages will deal with?

Hi Maryleen17!

The Demo is surely a good point to start. The game begins slow and easy and gets more complex over time where additional interesting effects start to form in the simulation because of your actions. Dirt, Water, Diseases and animal extinction is usually not a problem when your village is small, but the effects get stronger the more your village - and its needs grow.
Important is that you have an open mind and observe what is going on. As nature is deeply simulated many things work differently than in other city builders. Villages can get extremely efficient but speed heavily depends on how you play.

In the demo you can see the first part of that adventure which may need 30min to 8 hours depending on how fast you play. You can discover and settle new regions in the demo time, or just build your first community center if you like to play more relaxed.
Replayability: As you build multiple settlements on different maps and trade in real time with each other one singe playthrough offers a wide range or gameplay. Usually people play 15-80h in a single scenario. And there are three big scenarios that play differently and many scenarios have alternative starting regions to choose from or even have different story paths you can choose to offer additional replayability. So instead of many small generated campaigns the focus is more on a hand full big scenarios where you develop a whole continent in the world, building mining towns, farming villages, big cities and trade outposts.
With that the fans can play for hundred of hours if they like, and we also provide the full map editor where you can build your own world if needed.

I think you can get a good overview in the community wiki: https://kerzoven.wiki.gg/
Ressources and goods is only one part you need to take care of. In the wiki you may get an impression what systems await you :D

I hope this helps. But for sure better to take word from other players than from the dev^^

Oh, I’ll gladly take your answer as well—thank you very much for the detailed explanation 😊

I spent many hours playing the demo yesterday. I'm a very slow player, examining every little detail, so you can imagine what your highly detailed simulation does to someone like me...

It sounds like the various large scenarios will offer plenty of replayability.
That said, after 8 hours with the demo, I honestly doubt I’ll ever make it much further than the first big map 😄
Still, replayability is always a major factor for me when deciding to buy a game.
I've bought it now—let’s see how it goes.

The map editor sounds very interesting as well.
I took a quick look, and my first thought was: wow—so many possibilities and elements.
I would love a “random” button, where the system generates a world using all those elements, and you can then build upon that.
Just a quick idea—I always freeze a bit when staring at a completely blank canvas.

I assume the mechanics behind that would be a bit more complex than that 😊 maybe even entirely impossible.

Now I just need to figure out, how I can continue my community from the demo session yesterday, or if it´s better to start with a new village in the full game.

Ah I just answered the post on Discord, but copy it here as well in case someone else has the same question:

It is not intended to use the Demo world, but you could theoretically copy your main map to a new save game so you can keep the town. But it is probably easier and faster to start anew as you now have experience how the first steps work of the game and get fast through the tutorial. The Demo is also a bit on an older version and the full game has some improvements on the staring map.

If you want to keep it: It is a bit experimental but should work:

Open the demo game folder (e.g. by right click on the demo on Steam > Manage > Browse local files)
Go to Saves/Kerzoven/YourSaveGame
Copy the file "Kaltbach.bin"

Start the real game, start a new Kerzoven scenario, save it, close the game.

Open the real game folder (e.g. by right click on the game on Steam > Manage > Browse local files)
Go to Saves/Kerzoven/NewGameSave
Paste the file "Kaltbach.bin" (repolace the file)

Start the game, load your savegame, you should see your map.

You need to redo some points of the tutorial but a lot ill be super fast as you've already built quite some things.
