Map Feedback.
Ok, I'm working on a map, and I would appreciate any feedback. After all, you guys are the one that are gonna be playing it (hopefully).

Here's the plan so far:
It will be a map in a forest. There will be a highway running through the middle of the map, as well as roads branching off to the right and left. Prime is in the middle by the highway, probably in the form of a gas station. The two secondaries will be on the west and east roads, with each closer to one ot the teams. There will also by some small dirt paths branching between the main routes that will have tertiaries on them. Around the roads there will be alot of trees and bushes. Whether you can go past them or not I haven't decided.

It will be nighttime, so there will be lights along the routes, ideally lots along the highway, less along the two roads, and almost none on the dirt paths. Obviously it wouldn't be pitch black, but it would be dark-ish. This map would be great both for assualts with their thermal and stealths hiding in the shadows, both of which have trouble in the typical bright enviroment.

Here's a quick layout I made in paint:

Any suggestions, comments, ideas or feedback would be appreciated.

Cool idea, just make sure the players are still able to stray off the roads a little bit, and add some cover so turrets don't obliterate everyone!

Did you look at the paint image? If so, you'll see that there will at least be a area around the roads where you can walk, and possibly even in the "deep forest" where you can't build.
This would also allow you to avoid turrets better.

yeah, im liking the sound of it so far, can't wait to see some screens. anyways, if you chose to not let players stray to much off the roads, make sure there are some alternative paths, like an underground tunnel or something. i would also post this on IW forums, may get a response from some vets there.

Yeah, I'm planning on both of those.
I'm afraid to admit it, but a still transfering away from hammer noob :P
Still, you've got to start somewhere.
I will keep this thread updated as I get more progress for it. The biggest problem I have right now is the lack of layout tutorials. Portal 2 was easy, as it was just a hollow box, and the Alien Swarm tutorial explained the whole "structure seal" and walls with no ceiling well, but I haven't seen anything like that for Nuclear Dawn.

http://forums.interwavestudios.com/wiki/index.php/Category:SDK, this is a good source for some info. also many hammer tutorials on youtube will transfer over fine with ND's editor. no worries of being a noob mapper, i am starting to learn myself and definitely could use a few more.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

Ok, progress report:
I pretty much have a box w/ skybox and trees around the edges, and a backdrop on the walls.
I've done a lot of sketching to work with the road placement. I have the two bases created. I'm also working on the highway that goes through the middle of the map, after figuring out the right proportions. I will post some screencaps evetually.
Unfortunatly, I am having some computer issues, which will postpone any progress for a little while.

If you want, here's the my post about it on the Interwave forums, wich I tend to keep more updated then this. http://forums.interwavestudios.com/topic/4751-map-feedback/#entry30252

The next time you hear from me, I should have some screencaps to show off.

BTW, I thought up a name for it.
How does "Timber" sound?

Hello all!

Sorry about the wait. I was delayed by life, broken computer hinges, and a certain steam sale.
However, I had some free time, so I decided to post some screencaps. Note that these are more pictures of what it will look like then what it is like.

I will no doubt add some lights to this.

This is the end of the highway, at the edge of the map. (Btw, how do you make a cone of light like you would see from a lamppost?)

Last, this is an intersection. Not much to see. I plan on putting lampposts along the road and at intersections like these.

Well, there you go. Not much to look at at the moment, but hopefully it shows I haven't quit.

Yay, more pics!

Prime will be in the form of a gas station. The gas station will be split into two parts: the store section and a garage.

So far I have completed the building, and done some of the decorating of the garage.

You will cap the resource in the store section.

How is it going mate?
PentaPenta 6 Feb, 2013 @ 2:39pm
Not too bad. I finished up the garage/store for the most part, primary reasouce included.
I also have pretty much finished the parking lot.

I finished my most recentest project recently, and this is the next one on the list, so I expect a fair amount of it to get done soon!
