I have not noticed this to scared to kill my 50+ villagers testing.
and to deep in my game not wanting to reset it.
I mostly feed them fritata's.. worth 3 food.. they work fine.
or carrots worth 2 food, and they work fine too.
in early island) I tend to feed them on the island ceviste (easier to set up than carrots, as you first need to get composter going to get dirt on island before you can grow carrots in sufficient numbers.
-ceviste also works correctly.
in early main game : first moon berries, other moons until I got enough production for fritata's : fruit salad
I never tried feeding apples on their own... so would not know there..
I can try tossing applies in the stew kettle card
(2 iron bar+ 1 flint on + 1 campfire + 1 villager = stew kettle
this is a kettle you can fill upto 50 food..
it gets filled with the food value of the item tossed in.
-any food with"well fed bonus" will loose it
-but will not spoil, thus ideal on the island to make a food buffer..
(as I hate being 1 moon away from starvation all the time)
I can try tossing an apple in the kettle for you.
also do note.. food DOES get partially consumed..
so say a fritata of 3 food... 1 villager eachts 1 bringing it to 2.. than 1 more bringing it to 1.. any 2d villager eachts the last one of the first fritata.. than another of the second.
thus it is possible to have an apple that has only 1 food left. if it was taken a bite off in an earlier moon.
