The best way to dig out of that hole is probably doing some other questline for a few days (like joining another minor sect) or just wasting some time and hoovering up the Benevolence books from the two schools every day.
After that, my go-to option is usually just showering people with gifts.
If you meditate by the waterfall you'll get zapped by lightning and be reset to 0 Benevolence (Walking towards the waterfall will give you the prompt, 100 Stamina required).
Afterwards you can slowly raise it up by gifting people (at 60 Relationship), reading the Benevolence Archives (Up to 35) and by donating 100 coins to the Beggars during the Drive Off Beggar City Tasks from the City Bounty Boards.
