you'll be happier having a buttload of basic rods than a few high end ones and them snapping just the same
but as stated 10 to 20 of the basic one with a few blue is good enough, for most people needed. you only really need the yellow one for carry over till the next time you can't buy an other 10 basic ones. they all brake, so it a cost v rewards. basic are just going to be so much cheaper in the long run.
once you have given the cat 5 purple tier fish you unlock the ability to feed it as you would any pet. so you no longer require only purple fish from that point on.
but once ive feed it 5 purple fish i could then feed it any fish i had much like some of the other tame critters.
