Population
Is there eventually a way to control the population increase? I'm currently at 160ish population, but I have to continuously build houses, because there is always _someone_ without a house. I build a new house and a minute or two later there is another couple complaining that they don't have a place to live.

I'd say that these people breed like rabbits, but I have to wonder if rabbits wouldn't show more restraint. :)

Pop started to culminate around 650 on Alone Island for me. After this there was only slow surpulus of ppl. But I ran out of stone, so waiting for a house to finish is painful (not mentioning new mines or blacksmits).

The problem i think is, that the game does not simulate the viking living and lifestandards.

This game do not show the deathrates of kids, wifes or workers through illness, freezing, accidents, etc.

On the others side, most of the vikings did not have their own houses. They lived in houses with the whole family or poor ones and soldiers in the longhouse of the clan leader. It was normal that many families lived in one great house. But the game let us build houses for one familiy. So every new couple needs a new house. Only the better, richer had own houses.

And this leads to the effect, we must build houses permanently. But other building games have this problem too. Sometimes even worse for example "surviving Mars".

Maybe their should be another option: many families can live in a house. Greater the house, greater the amout of families who can live inside. But with "more than space is"-families lifing inside living comforts decreases with means hat the families are less willing to get more children.

I'd say you just seem to have to let them be homeless when you don't want to expand.

Once you're up to 300+ population a few homeless doesn't impact happiness much.

The other thing I do is never build 1 / 2 homes. Build 4+ at a time. Best even to build 10 and a marketplace. That gives you a bit time before the next complaints.

Ive started being more selective letting outsiders join too now.

To curb my population, I produce a lot of beer, so that my merchant ships and warriors on expeditions are always active. The problem now is that often merchant ships don't bring in anything, and my Drakkars are unusable (known bugs).

I totally agree. Population growth is immense. I play another game settlement game called Dawn of Time. It fixes this problem by not forcing only one family to live at one house at a time. Everyone can share the same hut or tent as long as there is enough space for everyone therefore building homes is less of a struggle. Another thing is there is nothing to control the population - no diseases, not even the raids or earthquakes kill off anyone. I know it's morbid but sometimes I wish something could happen to wipe out a hundred or more people so I can keep up.

I have to admit that I lost interest in this game shortly after I wrote the first post in this thread. I found that there are too many things in this game that are irritating - note, not challenging, just irritating. (e.g. Events that pop up and give you an incomprehensible set of choices between bad outcomes, villagers that are endlessly homeless, etc.)

I recently picked up the game again, but I'm beginning to suspect that I'm going to lose interest again before I get to the point where I can build ships. Mindlessly building houses and making random choices isn't fun. (e.g. some guy is being bullied and my choices are to banish the victim or leave the victim crippled? Really? What's the good choice there?)

I just read this and had to chuckle because on the tree you have a 5% fertility growth, guess we all will not have to spend points on that one.

They still haven't fixed this issue?!?!?!

Please tell me they have a least fixed the issue of people moving into houses?

I stopped playing because of this issue. It will not be fixed.
