Coal

I have a lot of coal that nobody will use, WHY??? Just more houses saying “no firewood or coal for heating”

You are correct, before EA launch both Coal and Firewood could be used to warm houses but this unintentionally led to complications in villager behavior. Some references to the earlier function of coal are still in the game and should be taken out for the time being.

Blacksmith will be your primary coal user. Houses prefer firewood, they will take coal of available. Make sure you have fully staffed warehouses.

Fully staffed warehouse & wont touch coal at all, even if out of firewood

Yeah I am running into the same issue. Wanted to go the coal road in order to not have to cut tree all the time...

I haven’t built the blacksmith yet, so I think I will build it & maybe once that’s done it will trigger coal usage

I take it back, I don't think houses use coal. The only icon they have for heating is firewood. Just to test it, I built a house next to a coal mine and it only has regular firewood icon.

The coal tooltip is really missleading then because it clearly states that coal can be used for heating.

I'm wondering if it's unlocked in the tech tree later on. Unfortunately, due to the way the tech tree works, we can't see what the options are since the icons are hidden unless you research next to them.
