As above. When you first start playing the game, it works as a Pause button; but after a while (if you use the mouse to change speeds) the space-bar no longer pauses the game.

Also when you open the tree of life and exit it, the Space-bar doesn't un-pause the game, but opens the tree of life instead. Looks like the binding isn't stable.
