bright flickering colours on the in game text causing blurriness
The bright flickering colours on the in game text and items in the game caused my eyes to become strained and blurry. It took a day or two for my eyes to recover.

I'm not sure if its the games refresh rate or me playing a older game on a modern system but something was definitely not right.

I can't currently play this game due to this issue.

When i played the game when it first came out i never noticed this.

Flickering lights? I'm on a small break from the game, but I don't recall flickering going on.

Try limiting the fps to 30 for this game. A lot of older games run better at that setting because that was the max available at the time. I used my Nvidia control panel to set it.

Anyway, doing this fixes a lot of issues in many of my older games. This game was overheating my rig on a regular basis, and now it doesn't. On another game, there were a ton of "bugs" that were fixed with the lower fps. A cursor issue was a problem on another game, and so forth.

The game will happily run at 120+ fps if your PC is powerful enough with no issues. Capping at 30 is pretty drastic. :moxes:

Any recommendations for players on how to achieve this? It's been a historic issue for players to reach 60+ frames without bugs.

LoL, I do have a fairly powerful gaming rig, but that was the problem, and what caused the overheating for this game, even on lowered settings. So the 30 fps fixed it, and the game looks and plays just like it did way back when it was first released and I had a toaster for a computer.

Oh, I had no idea. The game has always run fine for me. I only recently got back into it, but I did play when it first came out. My fps tends to drop pretty low in high-action moments, but for the most part it's pegged at 120 because I set a framerate cap with RTSS. I don't see any problems, but I haven't done anything special to it aside from the cap.

OP: I'm glad capping fps fixed it for you. If I knew another way, I would tell you. :NAYU_SUZU:

All good. Thanks for the details. It's usually the high-action (many effects on screen) moments that players report the frame drops.
In those cases; we usually advise players to lower in-game settings such as Shadows and Weather, toggle V-Sync on or off as a test, even change the numbers in the settings.txt file outside the game by lowering the number of Particles and even getting Corpses to "0".

Synergies mod (that increases number of enemies hence particles on-screen) even has a Low-population Add-on to help with this.

TL1 and TL2 run on one core of the CPU while the GPU is ignored.
One of the challenges on newer models is getting features where a single core of CPU can be tasked to run the game efficiently.

I've been running the game through Steam Compatibility Tools (Proton) and recent updates for this option have made the game run smoothly for me at high levels of graphic settings.
It may give different results for other models of CPU and software configurations however it's worth noting in case other players want to test that option.
