Multiplayer - What do we do!?
Me and my friends (I will refer to them as Friend A and B for clarification purposes) recently bought Torchlight 2 and planned on playing the game together, however it works a bit weird: I can join one of my friends, Friend A, without issue and they can join me, but if Friend B is present in the match, or if they try to join us it doesn't work at all! All we get is "connection error" either immediately, or after the game tries to "connect to peers" .

We've tried practically every solution we found online, including making firewall exceptions, changing the UDPort value in local-settings.txt, having network discovery turned on, but nothing seemed to work. Hell, we even tried using tools like Hamachi for a LAN workaround but whenever I open the LAN server list, I get signed out of my Runic account.

Is there anything else we can try, or do we have to settle for just simple single-player action?

I presume you are all doing non-modded, vanilla versions as well, correct? I have heard that trying to play nodded is even trickier.

The system is pretty hit-or-miss anymore, sadly enough. It took me and a friend several tries recently to connect, just to swap items for achievement purposes. My best suggestion is to keep trying the LAN route and hope for the best. Good luck!

P.S. I used Radmin for the LAN server. Perhaps that might work for you, too.

Yep, all non-modded vanilla versions!
Does LAN still work even though I get signed out of my Runic account though? The website says that I allegedly need to have a Runic account for online multiplayer (which should affect LAN too)
And related to this: Do you know *why* I'm getting signed out repeatedly?

I couldn't say why you keep getting kicked off. From what I have heard the system was winky before, and has just gotten worse now that Runic has folded. An account shouldn't be required for LAN connectivity since you aren't even connecting to their servers. But that is the way they set it up, though.

All I can say is that, the last time I tried to connect with a friend we could each create a game, but could not see each other. The only way we could see each other's games was through the LAN option, and even then it took several tries.

One other thought - did you or one of your friends tweak your dll file to enable the developer console? It is possible that could be the culprit.

Nah, we didn't even know that there's a dev console until now lol
We tried to do the "block your friend, then unblock them, THEN try making a game" solution. Now whenever we try joining eachother's games Torchlight immediately crashes with error code 300

try to delete settings.txt and local_settings.txt nearby savegame folder if your game crashes

There is a trick to making MP work but it requires one person going through loading screens first, then the next person. Even while going into dungeons or back to town any loading screen must be done with care and try radmin VPN as himachi can come with its own issues acting on its own accord with network settings.

Tell friend B to host the match, then Friend A joins while you wait on friend As load screen to finish, then you join and they must wait on your load. What ever order you get it to work is the loading order you must use.

Even if you dont use radmin or himachi and just try online while ignoring the red text on the bottom right that says firewall network issues detected, the order of load must be done one at a time.

If you finally get it to work, try not to use enchanters at the same time either or it might crash, town enchanters seem fine but its the ones that are RNG that make you DC.
