wait.. i have maybe the solution..

Ok i had this bug a year ago. Just needed a second to recapitulate..

There is one file corrupted, it should be the "modlauncher.sch" in the following directory:

go to your Documents\My Games\Runic Games\Torchlight 2
(i hope its not different in the steamversion)

Just drag this "modlauncher.sch" to another directory. TL2 should automatically generate a new not corrupted one by launch. If it works out you can erase the old file.

The interesting thing is that TL2 is not deleting this file when you reinstall for whatever reason. This was a hard nut for me to crunch...

I wasn't able to find a "modlauncher.sch" just "modlauncher" so I removed it and steam started to re-download it and I tried to play with the launcher option to manage mods and it just closed again.

did you enable the format to show up in windows? otherwise you can identify the format by rightclick content. Have you also been in the right directory? its not the install directory i mean. hope you did not erase the modlauncher.exe

if not you should find modlauncher.sch with the windows intern searchengine through startbutton

Its horrable that runic hidesall the old forum entrys.. i'll have a look if io can find it in my history there..

I uninstalled and reinstalled Tl2 now but left settings, mods and saves untouched. Same result :(

Maybe the settings are corrupted? Next try, uninstall with settings data...

EDIT:
Ok i have it working again. BUT: I did something interesting before reinstalling. Because mod launcher didn't work anymore there needed to be a concerning corrupted file. i had a look and found modlauncher.sch in the mygames/tl2 folder. Before the new install of tl2, i copied this file to another directory.
Now tl2 mod launcher had to do a new one after my install. All i want to say: Maybe i didn't have had to uninstall anything. Just deleting (or backing up) the obviously corrupted modlauncher.sch would have made it. :roll:

Okay I found it by doing a search on my computer and opened its location now what do I do? Move it somewhere like my desktop then delete Tl2 and re-install?

Try first to save it to another location to hav it in your back hand. Then restart TL2. This should last to make it work again. TL2 should generate a new uncorrupted modlauncgher.sch by itself then.
If not, uninstall TL and erase the file again after uninstall because it is usually not erased like your savegames are not erased.

I removed it and put it in a seperate folder and now its working again. Thanks a lot Skyhaster!
