It seems like there's supposed to be some circumstances under which you can kill those linked electric slugs by stomping near them, but I cannot figure out what the rules are. Almost every time I've tried it doesn't work. Whatever puzzle was supposed to introduce that technique went by too fast without me understanding what I did that was special.

Can someone please explain this mechanic?
