Planetary Campaign Expansion Released
The Planetary Campaign expansion for Infested Planet is finally out. Here's what's inside:
  • Dynamic Campaign Mode - Fight the aliens on a new strategic layer
  • 3 New Weapon Classes: Medic, Grenadier and Guardsman
  • 3 New Alien Enemies: Vile Tongues, Bombards and Infested Bunkers
  • Updated map generator: Aliens wall off parts of the map

The accompanying patch changes a lot of things about the game. Best of all, you don't need the DLC to enjoy it. Here are some of the highlights:
  • Added new mutations and reworked old ones
  • Revised Scout weapon class
  • Story campaign now has a difficulty selector
  • Many other small tweaks to game balance

About that lack of DLC requirement, you mean it automatically affects the game as an update?

Yes, it's a patch that I enabled this morning. :)
Great.

Jesus RocketBear! You've outdone yourself! I'm REALLY loving the quickly escalating difficulty, though one thing that does bother me is the strength of the Medic. Currently the Medic has two healing things and a rather sizeable range which does somewhat take away from the Medipod. What I would suggest would be either reducing the range of the Medic's heal and only give him one and give the Medipod two healing things, At least it'd give us some incentive to build the Medipod later on instead of just using the Medic.

Keep in mind that healing doesn't stack well - If I recall, there's a penalty for multiple things healing the same marine.

Plus, the medipod has a shield now. Play around with it and tell me if you still feel the medic is too powerful.

I already bought base game, and Trickster, so it will cost me $7.99 then in addition?
Reason I'm asking, is I am confused about the Bundle.

The bundle adjusts price if you already have some of the components. If you already have everything else, you should get -29% on the Planetary Campaign DLC. Get the bundle to save money.

Saw a part of a Let's Play on Youtube from Dad's Gaming Addiction. Made a complete campaign series on normal difficulty. This should link to the playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLj-tM9x_HmKrm5aYRbAs0XKzo8pchhzwn

Really enjoying the new campaign. My first run (on hard) was a little easy, so I bumped it up to veteran. Wow, you weren't kidding about the difficulty! That was way more fun than I ever expected to have fighting a single hive. (Four protohives AND vile tongues? Just wow. I've learned my lesson--no more invading territories occupied by elite units!) It's actually possible I could lose this campaign. Thank you so much--that's exactly what the game needed!

One question though. Regarding the difficulty of the story campaign, is the old campaign "normal" or "hard"? I'd like to know just in case I get a hankering for the "classic" experience.

Yes, I bumped down the default difficulty of the story campaign by default. A lot of people complained that it got too hard too quickly.

Hard is the old default setting.

Nice expansion!

Will there be new achievements for the new content?

There no achievements in the DLC. Since there's only one of me, I'd rather spend the time making the game better.

You outdid yourself once more! Absolutely shattered my expectations, fantastic job and hopefully for even more in the future :)

Quick question: If I do not own either of the DLC's, should I buy both of them or just this new expansion? Does tricksters arsenal apply to the planetary campaign dlc? etc. (Eventually will buy both either way to support rocketbear, just short on money now).

Thanks for the amazing long term game support rocketbear :)

Hi RocketBear! I'm very excited to dig into the campaign! This is an FYI message, as I have everything working just fine.

I picked up both DLC today, but was having problems getting them to download. In game, I would be promted to buy the campaign mode. They both had check marks next to them in the DLC section of the main game's steam library page, but were also showing as "uninstalled". I removed the check marks, and then re-enabled them. Both DLC then proceeded to download, now show as installed, and campaign mode is now enabled in game.

Again, I have everything working just fine, but I thought you should know about the issue I ran into, and the solution I came up with. I may have had this issue because of moving an old hard drive with my steam library to a new computer and then "importing" the library to the new steam install.
