Skirmish - escaping hives option?

What mutation is it that let's the hives turn into a giant leech looking thing that crawls away and makes a new hive somewhere else? Those are my favourite story missions but they don't seem to be available in skirmish mode?

Hive Crawlers - they're not a standard mutation, so are only around for those special "Hunt" missions in the story campaign, plus they occasionally show up in the Planetary Campaign DLC as a type of Elite aliens on the planetary map.
