Ideas for overall game enhancement
I might be misunderstanding how certain things work, but hopefully not:

  • Graphics: sometimes it's hard to even tell what's happening because so much carnage is happening so up-close. I'm not sure of what fix for this would be best, though.
  • Audio: the action is so nonstop that it might be nicer if audio that is immediately off-screen is a lot quieter than it currently is, and/or if audio that is more on one side of the screen than the other is more sharply pronounced by that side's speaker. Otherwise, in extremely hectic times, it can sound a bit like noise.
  • UI issues, such as:
    • the point-spending menu: when buying a new structure, the panel folds back to the main panel overview, yet when changing soldiers' armaments, it stays at the current panel. It might be nice to have an option that makes the panel-changing more consistent.
    • building structures: you have to make sure you pick one specific marine when building structures, or else it seems that a marine is assigned at random to be the one to build it. And then you can't pick a new, closer soldier to start/continue the building, so you have to cancel and redo the build. It'd be nice if any selected soldier could work on a blueprint.
    • Reconstructing wrecked structures: from what I've experienced, it seems that there is an invisible timer with regards to how long you have to reach a destroyed structure to rebuild it, but this isn't shown; it'd be nice if it could be.
  • When summoning a chopper attack, I don't know what its ETA is. Sometimes it seems to take longer than usual. If it's not a trick of my mind, then maybe some sort of brief ETA indicator (or even an upgrade that gives you an ETA indicator) would be helpful.
  • Map-exploiting: the description says you're "surrounded on all sides," but every skirmish level has no exit points. Therefore you can conquer maps more easily by performing an outward sweep to take out enemy bases in corners, and then work towards more-exposed middle areas only when nothing else is available. So a quick fix for this would be, for example, crawlers & co. that intermittently enter from 3-to-5 unusable "exits" off of the map border. That would be awesome.

These are minor, minor gripes compared to the immense fun and tactical brain-noodling I've had for this title.

Now I'm thinking about enemy AA turrets that make instant mincemeat of choppers until taken out or put in stasis, and Yggdrasil-like flying alien transports that can make their way over excessively land-focused defenses... maybe content for the sequel, Infested System?
