Bug-Report: V-Sync slows down game speed
I started out playing the game with V-Sync turned on. If I remember correctly, that was the default option. I was about to issue a refund because I felt, the whole game played unbearingly slow.

Only when I turned off V-Sync and my FPS averaged 63, the game ran at what I assume is its intended speed (with V-Sync my FPS were locked to 30).

Have you tied the game speed to the frame rate in a PC game with variable FPS?
In any case, I suggest you remove V-Sync from the options menu as a preliminary fix to not turn off any more new players. In a top down game without moving backgrounds, tearing shouldn't be problem anyway.

Hmmm. That's strange.

I assume that your monitor can do at least 60hz. What sort of video card do you have? The only way I can imagine it dropping to 30fps is if the video card was struggling to render at 60, or was very inconsistent.

I'm playing on a 4K 60Hz display and my GPU is a GTX 1070. With V-Sync turned off, I consistently sit at 63 FPS, basically never dropping or rising at all.
The main problem would be that the game speed is tied to the frame rate at all, though. That really shouldn't be a thing in a PC release. :/

It's not tied to the frame rate specifically. The nature of V-Sync is that it stops your whole application dead to wait for the screen to refresh.

The gameplay code updates itself at 60hz (assuming your PC is fast enough, which yours should be).

BTW, the reason the FPS hangs around 63 is because the game updates are around 60hz and there's little point in updating the screen if nothing changed in the game.

Oh, since we're talking about this. If you have a 4k screen you might want to change the UI scaling in options. Otherwise things might be too tiny.

Thanks, I'm already using the UI scaling!
I guess the V-Sync issue is an oddity then.
