Do I have to have Epic for solo play?
I will never put Epic on my machine, ever. Is it only for multiplayer/coop?

Thanks.

No. You can download the SR4 legacy version (you'll have to search the comments for those instructions, I forget how I did it long ago). Takes a little work, but no Epic nonsense.

I WILL GIVE EPIC GAME ONE BIG thing over steam.. epic games GIVE AWAY games..all the time

Gog..some times
STEAM..WAIT TILL SALE
,[btw FOR ME..some games I have on all 3. And other I have it on 2 of the 3

That's literally them just trying to bribe out the competition.
Believe me, Steam has some MASSIVE issues, i will be the first to admit that. But instead of Epic trying to make their storefront and platform a worthy competitor to steam, they offer free games as the only draw. There's nothing else.

They could've spent some of that cash given to publishers to instead make their platform better and a worthy and threatening competitor to Steam. The fact that Devs get a bigger cut of the profit for sales i think is a really good feature for smaller developers, bigger publishers i couldn't give less of a damn about. But as someone who mostly play mid-tier to smaller games now days. That's something i think is a plus.

But that's for the devs, the platform itself is awful. So i don't want to use it.
steam, ecpic and gog...have there 'perks...............' so that is why i am on BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!
Something I never really see mentioned in these Epic discussions is a lot Epic games can actually be played without having to first start up and login to the Epic launcher and it's generally hassle free to play games offline(as you don't have startup the Epic app first only to set your account to 'go offline'.) There are Steam games like this as well, but they are generally older titles.

Edit:
But back on topic... as mention above, switch over to the legacy version in the beta tab to avoid Epic stuff in SRIV.
(from your Steam Library > right-click on Saints Row IV > go to Properties > Betas > under Beta Paritcipation switch to sriv_legacy)

This never worked properly for me.
Whenever I try to play games offline, it'll let me do so for a while but after a few days I am forced to log in/have an active internet connection otherwise it won't let me continue to play those games.
And yes I have the "offline mode" enabled.

Does anyone else get some occasional freezes/crashes? Just randomly, sometimes it'll happen within 10 minutes, other times it won't happen till maybe an hour or so. Some people say limit the game to 2 cores but.. that comes with occasional stuttering, which I'd rather avoid.
I only saw any of this after I installed Epic trying to make the base version run (no purchase of DLC). Does switching to the Beta version remove that or if not can anyone point me to where I can do it manually?

Edit: Gat V DLC Pack came free, but I have since disabled it.

AAA gaming made me hate the word "FREE."
lol I’ve never had a problem with epic games and it’s not giving me a problem with saints row iv. It could be worse, at least it isn’t like Uplay or Rockstar games launcher which requires it to be on and online when you play games that require it like South Park or gta.

I'm playing re-elected with no Epic background services. After experiencing random crashing to desktop I tried running Legacy but that randomly crashed and locked the PC requiring a reboot everytime so I upgraded back to re-elected but blocked all instances of Epic accessing the internet with WFC (Windows Firewall Control) only allowing sr-hv.exe. Since then I have not YET experienced any crashes, I even left the game playing all night to grab some quality time with Kinsey and all was well this morning. Played a few more missions before Alt-Tab and now I'm typing this. In Task Manager there is no Epic stuff running, in the Services control, the Epic Online Services is not running (btw, this service seems to run even if it's disabled which is strange). I have no idea what's causing the random crashes, Legacy version did not fix this for me. Currently in Nvidia Control Panel I have App controled Anis Filtering and AA Mode, Texture filter = HQ and Max Frame Rate = 58. In game I have 1440 all Ultra and Vsync on, I have also locked the display.ini as the game kept changing itself to Shadows=Low everytime I alt-tabbed out, it still does but at least the display.ini remains constant. So far, so good and no Epic stuff running. Will report back if crashes start again..

In my experience, setting max fps to ~60 through nvidia control panel and turning on vsync, as you have done, is all it took to fix the random crashes on the Legacy version.
(Also did the host file edit for SR3/SR4 to fix the occasional stuttering.)
