Tips for physical discomfort while climbing difficulty
Hey all. I've been trying to get into the more difficult side of rhythm games for a while, but I've only ever managed to do so in one/two-button rhythm games. For example, I've gotten nearly all of the perfects in games like Melatonin, Rhythm Heaven Fever, and Rhythm Doctor, but I'm hitting a wall when it comes to doing difficult multi-button desktop rhythm games.

I mainly use my right hand and focus on the arrow keys (using the alternate left, down, right setting), but I struggle to hit all of the keys properly. Whenever I try to hit multiple keys in quick succession, it causes a spasm in my wrist and makes it nearly impossible to perform inputs with any level of consistency. I'm only at ~20+ difficulty, focusing on some of the DLC songs on hard difficulty. It makes me worried that I might be stopped due to my own body's limits even if I get to the point of being able to mentally track songs on impossible difficulty.

I was wondering if there were other folks that happened to find solutions to something like this, and if so, what could I do to mitigate the problem? I'd be happy to provide more insight, if needed.

I really highly recommend learning to play two handed. I also felt like I had hit a ceiling with regards to dexterity, but offloading some of it to my left hand made it MUCH easier, and wasn't nearly as hard to adapt to as I thought.

There are some other discussion threads here where people discuss their keybinds they find the most comfortable, but personally I just use the defaults (middle and right lane with the arrow keys/my right hand, left lane and space bar with WASD/left hand, down with either)

otherwise, I also really recommend looking up some hand and wrist stretches if you don't already do them. Rhythm games put a lot of stress on your hands, and I find that genuinely just doing a couple stretches every couple of songs helps a lot and my fingers don't lock up like they used to.

Best of luck to you!
