So about the character selection box.

The one from the free code. Can I save it for the black hole chick or do I need to use it now?

No, you can only get the ones that are listed in the box

Tbh, I don't know, and I don't think anybody can know.

I have quite a few of those and I wish I could turn them in for something else or give them away since I already got all descendants unlocked.
Same goes for the normie>ult upgrade item .. they just sitting there being wasted.

I'll try and use it when Nell drops I guess, but I honestly do think its 50/50 if shes gonna be selectable. Might take an internally updated version of the item for that that has her included. They might not make that on purpose yet till S4 or something in an attempt to try and get more people to play the content it takes to unlock her. But she might also just auto unlock if you play the story etc.

Honestly, they could do anything they want really.

Ines, Keelan and Serena are not in the box, Nell will 100% not be in it either
