In case of colossus fights, you can literally put a fully upgraded A-Tams sniper on the hands of any descendant and you will be able to kill almost all of them in just one phase before enrage in 30s tops, some may do it in one shot, others in two shots but all will do it rather quickly.
In the case of mobbing, descendants with good AoE will do well in any mission, having only like 1 mins tops difference with meta AoE descendants. Descendants that don't have good AoE or not have any AoE at all can use multiple different weapons like malevolent, king's guard lance, voltia and will still do most missions in around 5 to 6 mins tops.
Personally the only ones I don't like because of their gameplay style are Yujin, Jayber and Kyle, but like I said, once you have fully upgraded everything, you can do almost all content with all descendants.

what is mid game?
did u finish normal mode?
did u get mastery rank 18?
do you farm all dailies + battle pass dailies?
do you have at least lvl 100 all gear?
do you have all cores tier X?
throwing a generic "i want best char for all content" is so generic
but still penril knight gave you a VERY VERY clear answer about all corners of TFD content
and nothing covered you.
--
i ll do a wild guess.
you have around 50 ingame hours
you just finished normal mode and basic story.
u barely got your first lvl 100 gear on every slot
but you hit like wet noodle.
you DONT want to waste 700 ingame hours like i did to optimize 4 different elemental set ups to cover all content variations
you DONT want to waste 20 hours searching and watching 100 different youtube videos to find ONE good guide across the whole pile of s***

my advice
if you are here to enjoy sexy skins and farm materials to unlock the girls
just go for bunny
EVERYBODY has bunny
press skill 3 and run around like an idiot, bunny is one of the fastest easiest chars for running.
at least you will never be very behind when in groups
farm whatever it is that you want to farm, i dont care.
IF and WHEN you decide to take the game seriously
and invest time and effort to play it
THEN we talk.
and dont afk like the other 400 players each week
400+ get account punishment for afking.
have fun

GO BUNNY PRESS SKILL 3 RUN AROUND LIKE IDIOT ENJOY FARMING

If you are willing to make separate builds, then almost every descendent works. though the few already listed really are the most popular and the easiest to build as their powers really do a lot.
Ajax can clear trash fun and fast with a mobbing build and also reflect massive damage to a boss.
Esiemo runs faster than most bunnies with his 4 and explode everything around him.
Also you can stack bombs on a boss and just one shot most of them in a massive explosion.
Valby also fun, clear mobs or drown Colossus in a puddle with stacked dot.
Serena, bunny, freyna and Ines are easy mode characters for noobs and console players. Don't touch them, they will ruin your gaming experience.
- Serena can in theory outspeed Bunny and deal with mobs better than Ines but that's a high skill level, on the way she'll seem chaotic. Overall she deals the most damage in the game while debuffing enemies and restoring ammo with her 1, gliding and buffing herself with her 2 and then her 4, if cast on the ground, she buffs her defenses and restores HP, MP per stacks lost or buffs your damage insanely if cast in the air. Oh, she also flies while reloading your gun by tapping her 3.
- Bunny has a sprint speed cap of 1600 compared to 1440 for the rest of descendants, setting her apart. Her 4 nuke with crit fishing is about as potent as Ines's 3.
- Ines is an absolute beast when your problem is a lot of enemies at once. Jump into a group, then press 1 and 2 right after - you should trigger the chain explosions that wipe the map. Or simply throw out her 4 which does both for you automatically - while speed buffing you, similar to Bunny's 2. It's just annoying to throw it out to gain speed, but I still do it here and there. Oh... her 3rd ability is basically One Punch, Man. It just absolutely deletes stuff if you focus build for it.
Note-worthy mentions are Gley, Enzo, Freyna, Sharen and Viessa.
- Gley is the Inf Ammo descendant, literally.
- Enzo same but with extra steps though in return, he also restores the team ammo so Serenas will love you.
- Freyna is similar to Ines but has this awkward latency between casting and dealing damage... can be better if you spawn-trap NPCs though like in special ops where they always spawn in the same place.
- Sharen deals a *ton* of upfront damage and built right she can have 0 cooldown on her spam.
- Viessa is perfect for Purge 10 (the old Purge 30) and you can play it with ease without ever touching your gun. So very good for farming cores for your weapons.
