Game still running but at menu
Unplugged my joystick
saved game
exited game
returned to game
All good.
Heaps of sorrys to those without things to unplug, maybe try switching use/other ports?
Big fan of BioWare; not a big fan of releasing updates that cause unplayable scenarios for PC gamers. Mouse and keyboard bare-minimum should be working straight away. These are the type of issues born out of companies catering to the console gaming market. Keep the console as far away from my classic PC please.
If I wanted a console-friendly game, I wouldn't be here on steam.

I should note that the fix will not change the fact that PS controllers are not supported on Windows and will still require third party drivers to work which are out of our control.
