Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player

Tried just about everything and still does not start. win 11
tried: autoconfig, set resolutions, novid, windowed, dxlevel, heapsize, datacache, updated graphics drivers, tried different resolutions and refresh rates, tried the mod loader (which also won't run(?)), running from steam, direct from exe, etc, copied bin files to root, multiple tries at compatibility mode, multiple installs, multiple file checks, and multiple combinations of each of these

mm.exe still hangs in processes (not apps) and does nothing, no white screen, no black screen, nothing, until I tell steam to stop the app or end task

the multiplayer will start, so not sure what is different there...

system
windows 11
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13600K 3.50 GHz
32gb ram
64 bit
nvidia rtx 4060

Thoughts?

Did you install the Mod Launcher correctly and you had nothing else installed? You can join the discord server, they can try to help you with your issue there.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3378556750
The links can be found in the guide.

Also, could you try first launching multiplayer and then launching singleplayer? It might make the game run for you, just in case.

Well he isn't wrong.
also tried launching multiplayer into single player, which I think just crashes, because it closes and the single player never starts. also tried turning off all anti-virus.

mod launcher, I believe I followed the instructions correctly, but can try that again I suppose
Use Linux, just finished the game, almost 20 hours and not a single problem. Seems new Windows are screwing up old games (as they always do).

In truth that is the best thing OP can do. Apart from not playing the game, of course.

Anyway, is the Mod Launcher still not working for you? At all?
Also, you might want to install/update x86 Visual C++ 2013 redistributables. It might fix your issue.

By this do you mean run Linux through windows? or ... ??

Honestly, I've played it all the way through like 3-4 times, just 15+ years ago and felt like a trip down memory lane. I'm mostly just annoyed that I haven't been able to get it to work.

And yeah I've installed 2013 Visual C++ (twice now). Game/mod launcher still "hanging"

The linux bit was a joke, don't mind that.
Anyway, I have a feeling that the issue might have something to do with the COM issue that is described in the guide above. But since the ML is not even working for you, then I think you might want to join the discord server and ask there (again, links are inside the guide).
Windows 11 with a nvidia 3060 here, the trick that made the game actually work for me was I had to go into Nvidia control panel and turn off mutli-threaded optimization for this game.

I also turned off a lot of graphic stuff in the game itself and went with medium/no reflections. After that I have been able to play crash free, not using the mod version

What about trying setting the Vsync to 60Hz in resolution display in control panel and vsync on. Is there DirectX files in the games folders, like DX8 or 9? If so run them.
I have an RTX 4060 Ti and a i5-13400f (13th Gen) I’ll try installing it tomorrow and let you know. I have a block on 24H2 - as that really messes up a lot of games.

Tried Vsync 60 hz. No DX files in game folders - tried installing one found elsewhere and it gave me the already up to date message. nothing.

My windows is 23H2, not sure what the differences are or what that means. Thanks

I suppose it is windows 11 issue after all. Hopefully, the ML team is investigating this problem and the compability will be improved in the future.

Here’s win 11 24H2 issues.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2

Delay accepting it as long as you can. There is ‘ways’ to completely stop the mandatory update. I paid for Win 11 so i want to say when i get an update that’s not even completely fixed, which is what I’m doing.

As i said, i will install the game today let you know if it works etc
