I also dont think that this will change anytime because the AI was the same in the demo as they is now in the Early Acces version. So you see that there will nothing changing.
We have Generally 1 installed at work and in these years me and my business partner raced over 16000 races during lunch breaks and slow business hours. We were very excited for the coming of GeneRally2 but the handling of the car and the physics are really awful.
I totally agree with Tcassat, the behaviour of the vehicles is erratic and often unpredictable, and the physics are sometimes really weird.
This is clearly the main issue that takes away all the fun of the drive.. but since the game is still developing we have to mention some more problems:
- NO VISIBLE LAP TIME during the race, how can a player see how he's doing without the laptime? Also, for the way we played Generally 1 we sometimes played in a sort of 1v1 time-attack mode, with Generally 2 is impossible. in these years we have become so precise in the handling of the cars that we could perfect each other times by the hundredth of a second
- NO FIXED USER one of the perks of Generally1 was that each user had his colors, his record of race results and best laps, and every track recorded the user who set the best lap. In generally2 you have to personalize the user every time you start a race, and even if you punch in the same name there is no record of the user data.
I completely agree, both with regards to the first comment regarding the handling of the cars, and with the observation regarding the fastest lap display and fixed competitors.
Every 2/3 weeks I meet up with 4 or 5 friends to play GR and it's fantastic every time to select your "character" and occasionally go and see the statistics of the results obtained.
Right now we will continue to play GR1, but I am confident that sooner or later we will be able to enjoy GR2 as well
It's true that the feeling is not the same as GR1, but this is a different game, so we need changes... If you want the handling of the GR1 just play GR1....
To be honest I like the concept of the handling but not the execution... It is good to have a more advanced physic system in the game,
but sometimes it feels really weird... sometimes even appears that you have different tyre wear on your left and right tyres and this generate a really weird handling... this is not a simulation game and the tyre wear should be the same in the 4 tyres to avoid this kind of weird handling...
Anyway the game is in a really early state, I hope that the developers improve this based on the user comments :)
That said the "Brake = Reverse" doesn't work at all when it's so easy to get turned around on ice/etc. You start to spin out, so slam on the brakes and instead find the car accelerating because you've gone past 90 degrees of slide.
They sort of fixed it.
