How to convert default GR1 tracks to GR2

I downloaded the GR1 zip and copied the the .trk files to the gr2 folder, changed a file extension from .trk which was the original to .track but GR2 isn't picking them up.. is there an easy way to convert the tracks over? I don't see the original in the game or workshops and there was some amazing default tracks on GR1

You need to put them in the GR1 tracks folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GeneRally 2\GR1Tracks
And DON'T rename them!

I've had tracks that didn't work for whatever reason. Opening them in the GeneRally 1 track editor and saving them seemed to fix the issue.

Tracks cant load in menu and then game is freezing a bit

If you go to "Local Race > Select Tracks > GR1 Tracks" do you see tracks you can select?
When does the game freeze? When selecting a track or when racing or...?
