That said, GameMaker: Studio 1 still works just fine if you already own it, you can just no longer buy it or any of its "extra export options" add-ons that you don't already own (at least not on Steam?).
In my opinion, GameMaker: Studio 1's interface/GUI is also easier/more intuitive to wrap your head around for newcomers, but I must admit that GameMaker Studio 2 is probably better or more streamlined once you're used to it.
Though it won't hurt to try GameMaker: Studio 1 first if you already own it. Most of the experience that you get with scripting and such will carry over if you decide to buy GameMaker Studio 2 later, and alternatively, if you end up not liking GameMaker: Studio 1's scripting, you can save the money that you would have spent on GameMaker Studio 2.
TL;DR: GameMaker: Studio has been replaced by GameMaker Studio 2, but you can still use the former if you already own it.
