By supplying some items to the Material Foundry, you can attempt research, and in return you'll get some hints on what ratio's you need the materials to be in.
it seems that the system is not working correctly, e.g. after adding 1-5-10-100 units of titanium, hints continue to offer to increase the amount.
We'll clarify the result messages in the next update.
You need a minimum amount of platinum ore to unlock platinum, so the moment you have reached that threshold, you'll get the message about increasing the amounts. So just keep at it until it eventually unlocks. You need at least 19 platinum ore to have a chance at unlocking platinum, more increases the odds.
The ratio you could find it soon. I suggest you to start with 1:1, then go with whatever the hint message said (Just increase 1 each time)
