Strategy for gameplay question

I can advance the drill to Level 2. Should I continue the storyline or work on clearing the whole area before advance?

Beat the boss and then go upgrade the drill. Explore the higher levels, and you might get better weapons and gear. Once the automation module unlocks, you can go back and do stuff like mining and making things.

upper right corner of your screen is the "quest objectives". if it gives you some kind of error when you try to go to lv2 with the drill, check there.

if there's no quest objectives displayed, you can turn that on in the settings, or just open the inventory screen then switch to the other tabs along the left side (eg, Quests)

oops; i originally misread that as "can't".. haha. but leaving this here in case it helps anyone.

also, if you CAN go to level 2, do it. that's where you can start to research basic automations, like simple electric generators/ smelters and such.
