An achievement based on real money spent is disgusting and disappointing

The game has no such achievement. It's just a bad joke.

I assume you're talking about the kickstarter achievement. There's another way of getting it, eventually once you get far enough in the game you can find a secret area where developer NPC's hang out and then you can give them certain amount of in-game money and you get the achievement.
