Beta Update Changelog

Below are changes to the beta update for Hotline Miami on PC, Mac, and Linux. Once these are deemed stable, we will update the game with these versions permanently.

As a reminder, users can opt-in to this beta version by simply right-clicking the game title, select Properties, and then go to the Betas tab to opt-in. Password is: hlm

29 August 2013:
[All] Non English leaderboards layouting fixed. Long names are now shortened as a result
[All] Sounds and music should now continue to play on systems with less audio resources
[All] Volume setting is now saved when exiting with escape.
[All] After completing chapter 11, it now should say Chapter 12 Trauma instead of Chapter 10 Trauma.

20 August 2013:
[All] Removed ogg files from wad file
[Mac] Lowered required mac version to 10.6(Snow Leopard) on the launcher
[Mac/Linux] -skip support for launcher (add it in a shortcut to skip the launcher)
[All] Log file generation*

[All] Fixed 'Get A Life' trophy unlocking too early.
[All] Fixed trophy progress not being saved when exiting a level. This made getting the trophies a lot harder and explains most of the trophies not working issues.

[All] Fixed some translations issues.
[All] Fixed Full house respawning outside the level issue.
[All] Fixed unable to pick up hidden letter in trauma using L1.
[All] Fixed crash in Crackdown level.
[All] Fixed cops in Assault level turning into mobsters when using Dennis mask.
[All] Fixed enemies walking through walls after restarting a level.
[All] Fixed crashes with opening and closing menu
[All] Fixed crashes with room changing

[All] Performance optimizations

12 July 2013:

[Linux] Fixed crash with some ati drivers

[Linux] Crash in Crackdown*/**

[Linux] Unable to pick up letter in Trauma with left trigger*

* These fixes will be deployed to Windows and Mac at a later date
** We're aware that the blood and bodies disappear after you returned to a floor and die.

1 July 2013:

[Mac] Initial beta version for updated Mac client.

[Win32] Removed a .dll included in the distribution that may cause audio to stop working for some users.

[Linux] Added an option to the Linux launcher to select which detected joypad to use for input.

[All] Added support to switch trigger/bumper button assignments in launcher.

[All] Fixed an issue where the player could respawn and see his own corpse in Full House.

[All] Fixed keyboard button assigment of the ‘Restart’ button in the options screen.

[All] Fixed ‘Pause Menu’ and ‘Restart’ control mappings not showing up in the Controls screen when using Keyboard and Mouse.

[All] Fixed music volume not correctly applying in most cases.

[All] Fixed a case where the ‘Zoo Keeper’ achievement could become unattainable, users affected by this should see the trophy unlock the next time they finish a level.

[All] Fixed an issue for gamepad users where progress towards some achievements would be incorrectly reverted after dying (concerns Sounds of Animals Fighting, Pitcher, Always on Top, Knife for Pros and Guns for Show).

[All] Fixed an issue where enabling vsync in fullscreen would result in screen tearing and/or visual artifacts for some configurations.

Looking really good. I was wondering if the slowdown (I think it's only the player's movement speed that's affected) I'm currently getting in the beta a known issue at the moment or just me?

Still getting segmentation fault when running on Linux with ATI card using the proprietary Fglrx driver.

i got major frame drops when there;s a lot stuff happening..like when you startle lots of enemies and they are chasing after you...big shootouts...
it wasnt like this before

Can you post your system specifications please? By 'before' do you mean the previous beta release or the current live version of the game?

I'm having trouble obtaining the 'Always On Top' Acchievement, and yes, I did use all the weapon executions. I doubled checked and looked through the wikipedia too. Can you see if there can be anything done about this? Thanks!

Hey, that's unfortunate but thanks for the feedback! Could you upload 'SaveData.sav' from your /My Documents/My Games/HotlineMiami folder so we can take a look and see what the problem is in your case? Thanks in advance!

Processor:Amd athlon II x3 445 3.10ghz...Ram = 4Gb...windows vista 32 bit,,,amd hd4850 the game slows down with the new beta update

It still doesn't work with catalyst drivers

Everything seems good. I do liked how the game is able to open faster than before and the reformatting of resolution options as well as opening title cards are great.

Problem is the performance. I cannot tell if the frames are dropping or the game is making my character move a bit slower than it should, but I can tell you the performance isn't as good as before.

I played today before the Beta on my laptop
It's AMD C70 Duo core 1.3GhZ, 4GB RAM, 320 HDD, RADEON HD 7690 (I don't know exact model number but it's a good GPU)

Before the beta, the game ran great. After I installed the beta and played, the game isn't performing well for me.

Also, another problem I would like to address. I have played the game up to the first Chapter and I quit despite the new "savepoint markers". The one where it shows the video cassete telling you the game is saving.

Okay, so it seems like I am not having a saved game at all. It's not saving my games and I have to start over by clicking "start game" on the menu.

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

To help us locate the problem could you please check to see if a folder named 'HotlineMiami' has been created in your "My Documents/My Games" folder and see if the file 'SaveData.sav' is in there?

If not; could you post the full path to your My Games folder? This would look something like "C:\Users\<Your Username>\Documents\My Games\".

Any additional information like which OS you are running would also be very helpful!
