Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Steam OS
I can only hope the mythical Steam OS will come out before October. Right before most plp will be forced to move to Win 11.
Can you imagine how many computers are being dumped just because the chip is not supported by new windows system?
It is Zorg`s 5th Element office again...

Steam OS will be good for the same client as the Sony client.
One that will buy a Steam Deck or a Steam desktop computer (with components strictly adhering to specifications).

Especially on AMD cpu and gpu.

Or wait until they make a browser-based application that doesn't require installing to a local computer, or don't rely on a monopoly product to do your taxes, especially if you need an accountant anyway.

Not even 10% of the population is both skilled and willing enough to bother installing, let alone a LiNuX OS on their PC and troubleshoot in case things go wrong.

Most will grumble, huff and puff but at the end of the day will get a new PC and that PC will be running Windows 11.

I do not agree with you, soon they will be getting a phone or tablet because they will lose the knowledge of how to use a pc.

Only current problem with Steam OS on pc was screen resolution. It was limited. Native resolution 3840x2160 not possible. Then I tried several Linux distros. Easy to install. Resolution was there. Installing steam was no problem. Some have steam preinstalled. Linux distros now have HDR. Kbuntu has a few more HDR and screen adjustments. Ubuntu is also very good. Most Linux distros are set for AMD. Some have Nvidia.
Linux updates are fast. No circle or please wait. For game play it's great. Typically faster FPS then Win. U Tube test. On one game I got 123 FPS. I made the switch.

This I find more about level of education. Collage or University graduate is more PC/notebook oriented, then others are good with phone. At least this can be applied where I live.
I feel like it is one of the moments where the most plp will change their machines or rethink about their purpose.
But yehh like Zef pointed, not many plp have the courage to tinker.

Maybe that is why kids in US are on Chromium notebooks and are ok with just browser.

I Just have hope.

Jean batiste.....Emmuel.........Zorg

One of my most favourite films. Luc Besson also did The Big Blue if you have not seen it. And La femme Nikita.

But if you already knew of The Fifth Element then chances are you know of his others

If you use your machine for anything other than gaming you don't want Steam OS. There are lots of great alternatives.

steamOS does the same job as any other distro, with the tradeoff is that it is not great for anything but gaming
if all u do is use a web browser and play games then sure it can be good, but other distros are generally going to do a better job if u have wider software needs and thinking that steamOS is the only good distro for gaming is dumb, basically any distro does the same thing with better alternative software support

The main feature of Steam OS is the immutable file system. It makes it hard to break and easy to update, but also hard to customize and install additional software. I don't know if Valve has any plans to change that in the future.

Steam OS won’t offer anything different than any other well maintained distro.

Thank you for splitting it into different parts of a problem why it is not doable. Some stuff just does not click right away for me. That is why I have so many questions all the time. :csgohelmet: Will try that on my pc after I finish some of my current projects.
