Steam Input - problem on different distributions
For a long time I have had a problem configuring my controller in steam input on various Linux distributions.
controller connects correctly to my computer, I can also control it in Steam Big Picture without any problems. the problem only appears when I start the game.
I tried different distributions. openSUSE, Fedora, Solus, manjaro. I installed Steam from both the distribution's repo and flatpak.
by installing Steam from the distribution's repository, I manage to run the controller only in the BallisticNG game, it does not work in Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty. when I install Steam from flatpak, the controller does not work in any of my games.
several times when I installed steam-native on manjaro I managed to get the controller working on all my games. I don't understand what's going on anymore, am I missing some libraries? Maybe some Linux users have encountered a similar problem?

Some people had success with something quiote counter-intuitive: Disabling controller support in Steam for the game.

I've tried literally everything. I turned Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox pads on and off in the settings. I tried downloading Community Controller Settings and even once managed to get it to respond to the arrows in the menu, but that was all. Today I reinstalled manjaro from KDE and the first thing I did was to install Steam in the "steam-native" version, available only in the manjaro repo (and probably others based on arch). Without going into the controller settings, I turned on Steam Input from the game settings and the pad works. But why only on "steam-native", which is only available on manjaro? Is it my Chinese controller's fault? It is recognized in Steam as a Nintendo pad and the system shows the name "Pro Controller". Is it a game thing? BallisticNG shows that it supports 3 types of controllers and it is easier for me to get my controller to work. Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty shows that it only supports the Nintendo controller and it only works on Steam-Native in Manjaro. However, when installing Steam via flatpak, the controller does not work in any game, only in the Steam menu

I don't have a cable at the moment to try this out. The distribution I used had Kernel 6.8 or 6.6. This is a bit strange because on every version of Steam and on every distribution my pad works in the Steam menu. On manjaro I have two versions of steam available in the repo, (steam) and (steam-native). When I install Steam, I have the same problem as on all distributions, in some games the controller works properly and in others it doesn't, and they are always the same games. However, when I install steam-native controller it works on all my games.
I also don't really understand what's going on with these pad icons (Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox). Yesterday I installed the game Crash Bandicot, which shows me only half of the Xbox controller icon, and yet my controller, which looks more like a Nintendo controller and is detected as Nintendo Pro, works without any problems (on steam-native)
