Slight problems with L4D2

For some reason I'm missing some textures when my friends on windows say that things look fine to them. We even shared screenshots and he could not tell me why that is the case as I have not modded the game.
The other issue I have is the text. As you can see, I have an upside down pentagram in my username. It comes up as a rectangle in the chat and just a blank space in the kill feed.
How would I go about fixing these issues?

That would probably a font issue. The font used by L4D2 doesn't include the symbol you need. I've got no idea what font they're using though. If you really want to dig, the tool strace might help, but that's deep digging for a very minor annoyance.

Somebody with experience in the game could chime in and you could compare their Linux view on those places with yours. If it's a general problem of L4D2 on Linux or something specific to your installation. I do own the game, but if it's not the very first place, I'm not sure I could help you. :D
