You don't mention what is happening when you try to launch the game but you could try adding the following to the game launch options which worked for me with Castle of Illusions.

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%

My apologies, When I do it through Proton it says it’s running but isn’t. When I did it through Lutris Steam the Space Engineers pop up pops up but doesn’t run. I hope that makes sense.
