Video playback in Unreal Engine games
Video playback within Unreal Engine, often used for in-game tutorials and into splash screens, fails to play. Instead I get a sort of multicolored TV test pattern thing. I first noticed this in the game Main Assembly, and it's identical on my Garuda system and my son's Ubuntu system.

I'm having the same issue. Did you find any fix?

I did!

What you want to do is install Proton-GE. You can easily get it with the Proton Up[davidotek.github.io] application.

Set the game to use Proton-GE under compatibility after it's installed, and your videos should play.

The reason is that certain video playback solutions are proprietary Microsoft stuff that can't be redistributed by Valve. Proton-GE (Glorious Eggroll) adds it anyway.
