Report a translation problem
My first bet would have been that you're running the opensource drivers. Are you sure the nvidia one is loaded? I remember that when I installed the closed source one, I had the problem that it was installed, but not loaded. I think that was back when I still used Fedora too. Not sure though.
Can you open the nvidia-settings application? Other than that I have no idea.
You could copy&paste the System-Information that Steam provides under the "Help" Tab here, since they're more detailled than what you provided. Might help someone else.

For me all the Source games' performance on any Linux distro is miserable, but on Windows perfect.
