What distribution are you using?

I just tested this with my Antergos (Archlinux-based) VM shell and steam closed immediately and shutdown began within a few seconds.

Maybe try this simple script then create a .desktop shortcut icon for it on your Cinnamon desktop:

#!/bin/bash /usr/bin/steam -shutdown shutdown -P 0

I am happy to inform that I have been following one of the github issues for that "prevent shutdown" annoyance and response from beta users there was "issue solved" across all kinds of distros/DEs :steamhappy:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/3301

Maybe Linux Mint Cinnamon users might have a long shutdown after that, but thats a lot better than shutdown sequence aborting. One user on LM is now reporting this there, I use LM Cinnamon too but have not tested yet as I'm not using Steam Beta.
Wow that's good news, but sadly I'm not using Linux anymore because I need some software that runs on Win only. :c Thanks anyway :3

Hey Xtance=3, I'm sad to know you had to go back to Windows...

Whats the specialty software that caused this? Maybe there is a substitute on linux or a way to run it on WINE (stable version 3 has just come out :steamhappy:).

Also you can always try having both OSs (dual-boot) around to get the best of each. Let me know if you want to try that and need some help.

I'm having win and xubuntu in dual boot but I need Hammer to make maps for cs:go. The compiler runs really slow on my PC so if I put it in Wine I'm sure it will be even slower. :steamsad:
