Piece of a Treasure Map Issue

recently started getting into this game and having a blast, but i've run into a issue regarding the treasure maps. I finally managed to acquire two "pieces of a treasure maps" and wondered how to use them, and after looking at the guides saw you can combine them to make a level 2 treasure map. However, I can't seem to do it, there's no option in crafting and trying to equip them just gives me the "part of a larger treasure map, find more pieces blah blah" screen. What am I missing?

If you have two pieces you can combine them by using one of them in your inventory, there's no crafting involved.

By "using one of them" i assume you mean clicking equip or double clicking them in your inventory, which just gives me the "find more pieces" screen. At the risk of sounding like a silly question, is there more than one type of Piece of a Treasure Map?

That's unusual, the two pieces should be two separate inventory items that look like both halves of the map, not two pieces of the same side.

Could it be because I received one piece from a quest reward and the other from a treasure chest?
The first one i got from the "Rat Problems" Quest, and the Second i received from a treasure map i had on my route.
