Does it impact the story much if you choose evil?
I'm talking about all the way through to BG2. I know ultimately it's supposed to be a story about good overcoming evil. Without giving any specific spoilers away for obvious reasons, generally speaking will the story seem weird in places or forced if you choose say a fallen pali over a normal pali and play more loose and not bound by this being goody goody thing.

I want to do my first playthrough all the way through BG2 to the end but want it to be as fun as possible and so far playing the vanilla goody goody player is starting to feel a bit...drab. I don't want to get to half way through BG2 and think...jeez I can't take this anymore and quit..if it's so dull. If I start a new game playing fallen pali will it be more enjoyable or will I be scratching my head and think "this story doesn't make sense"...?

I also want to put some mods in which will improve the experience, this will give me an esxcuse

Mostly BG1 has very few to little interactions of evil choices, one I can think of is flooding the mines while the miners are still inside.

BG2 has more choices, albeit not so much, on evil route, it’s all mostly normal stuff on the quests until you get to the finishing line of the few quests that gives you choices to “pursue” other choices.
My problem with moral choices is they either "I will be a decent person and help solve quests", or, "I will purposely mess with a spell to make this completely innocent person explode".

Maybe I want to be a good person but play a no-nonsense jackass.
Maybe I want to be "evil" but in a way that makes sense, like I'm not going to explode a characters spine unless they directly got in my way or didn't heed my warning.

I know I'm asking for too much but I don't think a game has pulled off being a bad/evil character right. Someone said Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous pulls off being an evil Lich and how people react to you while still being your followers.

In Tyranny it was really pretty good to play an evil Character.

It would actually be fun to play an evil character IF you could do something cool like that.
All the evil choices usually start as a fetch quest and the evil deed is just keeping the items for oneself.
Being evil in this game is a lot like pretending to be Megatron circa 1984. Exactly as fun as it sounds.

errrm...also "true nuetral" keep the items according to need. If you don't swing one way or the other...why not?

I tried an "evil" run, not a homicidal serial killer run, just "evil". It was too hard to manage reputation other than to just off commoners. I wanted to kill specific NPCs for a reason and the writing didn't offer much of that. I abandoned about 2/3 of the way through.

yeah it's mostly for min/max players who want a challenge

Fallen paladins aren't much fun to play, they're just gimped fighters. The fun of being a bad paladin is committing crimes and getting away with it.

You can commit almost every evil action in these games without becoming fallen, you just need to manage your reputation. Think of it like a currency system. "I have 20 reputation, so I can afford to murder one child and her cat today..."

Seriously, a 20 rep paladin can murder a child and her pet cat in the city and get away with it.

Obviously that's a silly way to play, but I'm just pointing out that you can get away with a lot. Be as morally grey as you want.

I haven't played BG2 yet, but in BG1 theres quite a few dialogue options that are exclusive to low reputation. You also get the bonus of having evil party members say happier lines, and good companions say unhappy lines.

I view games like this as a means to experience as much dialogue as possible so those little scenes and snippets are absolutely worth it to me.

Evil can be harder to play though. You need to be quite evil to make those companions happy and theres even exclusive encounters that happen at very low reputation. I had a bounty hunter come after me at 3 reputation before I had even been to baldur's gate.

Being in the city is very hard on a low reputation party though. the guards that spawn hostile and only go away if you kill them are rough. You're stuck with them forever if you have any party members that aren't evil. (for me it was skie) but you also get unique dialogue and fights that weren't in the good path.

Worth it imo, but I played good first, and then evil; so all the evil differences were something I appreciated. I think I may bg2 evil first though.

Especially a lawful evil character. Tyranny really got that right.
