The base game continues into the expansion automatically, and you keep all story companions that are part of the expansion's story. Some will not be available anymore, since they will not be part of BG2 either. For others you will learn why they will turn against you in BG2 (like Coran & Safana).
Once you know that the equipment of some companions is not transferred into the global chest, you can work around that. Do that.
SOD features tons of good and funny voice-acting. Unlike the base game.
And yet an evil protagonist becomes the savior of Baldur's Gate in the base game.
That is utter nonsense.
>men bad
this is garbage
I want my Shar-teel and Kagain back
this is probably the worst expansion pack in history of expansion packs
not to mention, Enhanced Edition forces english voice pack for new characters on top of old voice packs, which results in game being voiced in both polish and english at once
Few companions from BG1 are available in BG2.
Doesn't interest me. Feel free to report a bug:

does not work like that you unpaid shill janny
It is a factual statement that this expansion features good and entertaining voice-over.
you know what is most important thing in video games?
GAMEPLAY
and it became worse with SoD
I won't even address your retarded claim that voiceover is good
it is not. Meh at best.
Huh?! The expansion is based on the same D&D based rules, the same game engine, the same UI. And it is almost the same character levels up to the cap at 500,000 XP.
Thankfully, there are enough counter-examples in this expansion.
too bad it is also made by developers without inch of skill in making fun adventures
or games
godawful writing, nonsensical enemy placement, no balance in sight, 200% retarded companions, lack of actual role playing for 1/3 of characters, some forced drama from time to time, companions that became insufferable ♥♥♥♥♥ since classic, companions cut for no reason, and so and so
it is also horribly linear, no exploration at all
The negativity in you is strong. That's rare. So, once more: This expansion is a demonstration of what the team at Beamdog can do within their enhanced Infinity Engine. They have added new companions with voice-over and personal quests to the enhanced edition before, but developing a full expansion is something else. SOD contains enough bits that are fun and give players the opportunity to continue playing with low-level characters before starting BG2. Apart from that, SOD story telling explains what happens between end of BG1 and beginning of BG2. It fills the gap between those two games. Without this expansion, the beginning of BG2 is nonsensical.
Not true. Particularly Minsc & Dynaheir are better than in BG1. Not only because of voice-acting.
What exactly troubles you?
What would be your rationale?
Which ones? Hint: Don't answer "Jaheira" or "Safana".
In BG2 even more so.
Not true.
What is true is that as the coalition's forces travel through the lands, new areas get unlocked while access to past areas is lost. However, the available locations offer opportunities for exploration. Overall, linearity isn't much different from a game like Icewind Dale.
Baldur's Gate is not Icewind Dale
Baldur's Gate classic had strong focus on exploration and adventure, just like Icewind Dale was 95% combat
>team at beamdog can do whatever with infinity engine
Team at beamdog is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that Baldur's Gate 3 got outsourced to Larian, studio that almost died and was revived thanks to patreon or something
no one outside of people who already played this games are interested in playing them, or anything from beamdog
Siege of Dragonspear is an expansion like Tales of the Sword Coast, but post-end content like Throne of Bhaal.
Story in BG1 is quite linear. There is a semi-open world, but most areas are just filler content and unrelated to the main quest/story.
That's a false summary again.

(1) "Outsourcing" is something completely different.
(2) Receiving permission from Wizards of the Coast to develop a Baldur's Gate game (in conjunction with them) is what has happened after the original BG3 has been vaporware and the source of rumors for many years.
