2. Two more of the usual advice ideas... Try running the game as administrator, and try launching the game outside of Steam by finding the executable file in your computer and double-clicking it.
Also...
3. Describe what happens when you launch the game. Nothing? Black screen? Game opens but immediately closes again within 2 seonds?
4. What graphics card are you using, and is it updated?
I do have "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\xinput1_3.dll".
3. I click "Play", the button changes to "Stop" for a couple seconds, then goes back to "Play". Nothing else seems to happen. No black screen, nothing.
4. NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super, not the very latest drivers but no more than a couple weeks old. I'll try updating them although I'm not optimistic.
DirectX is not uninstallable without sketchy third-party utilities, so I didn't even try. I downloaded the "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)" from:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
I extracted, then installed. That's all it took. Downloading it was a waste, though, since I could have simply run DXSETUP.exe from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010".
