Game won't launch
Win11 23H2

I've tried all the usual advice (verify game files, reinstall, review conflicting apps). Nothing has helped.

This is a brand-new install and the game won't even launch the first time. I'm not running third-party AV or firewall crapware, or anything like that. It's not a VPN getting in the way.

Any potential fix or did I waste $25? I requested a refund but since I bought this back in January, I guess I'm not likely to get one.

1. No, you're not getting a refund. The timeframe for that is less than 2 hours of playtime, or less than 2 weeks of ownership.

2. Two more of the usual advice ideas... Try running the game as administrator, and try launching the game outside of Steam by finding the executable file in your computer and double-clicking it.

Also...
3. Describe what happens when you launch the game. Nothing? Black screen? Game opens but immediately closes again within 2 seonds?

4. What graphics card are you using, and is it updated?

2. When I try running either Wreckfest.exe or Wreckfest_x64.exe as admin, I get a dialog saying "The code execution cannot proceed because XINPUT1_3.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

I do have "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\xinput1_3.dll".

3. I click "Play", the button changes to "Stop" for a couple seconds, then goes back to "Play". Nothing else seems to happen. No black screen, nothing.

4. NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super, not the very latest drivers but no more than a couple weeks old. I'll try updating them although I'm not optimistic.

This is a DirectX error. First, make sure you have the latest DirectX updates. If you do, then try uninstall/reinstall DirectX. Also, get your new copy of DirectX from MicroSoft directly, not some 3rd-party website.

That did it, thanks. I was taking for granted that the DirextX 2010 files were installed. I should not have been caught by such a stupid issue.

DirectX is not uninstallable without sketchy third-party utilities, so I didn't even try. I downloaded the "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)" from:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

I extracted, then installed. That's all it took. Downloading it was a waste, though, since I could have simply run DXSETUP.exe from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010".
