Thinking of returning - overwhelmed
I havent really touched WF much since Volt Prime dropped (10 years ago?) . Logged in to run around some of the open world stuff when it first dropped but had no idea what I was doing.

One of my biggest blockers to returning to WF to give it a full college try is that I have simply no idea what to do, in what order. Again, lets say I had a hard stop at Volt Prime. What order of "missons/quests" would you say I accomplish things. Is there even a definitive source on content release order for returning players?

I should probably install the game and return here with the list of completed quests and content that Ive done to give you a better idea, but this is the dilemma Im in.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found this link on DE's website. "Log in and we'll automatically track your Quest progress so you always know exactly where to go next."

https://www.warframe.com/guides/quests

Or you can enter the game, open Codex console behind you (Opposite side of Market console), open Quests Tab and see what quests you can start next. Advancing to new areas in Star Chart may open new quests for you.
I had the saem problem.I played warframe EVEN EARLIER than you and when i came back like 2 months ago i was overwhelmed as hell.

What i did is,play a few missions to get the hang of it.Then i started main quests and after that i slowly learned how the game goes and got the hang of it.

Good luck and don't forget to clear the star system if you haven't done already.
Yah I keep seeing that completing the StarChart should be the first priority. So here's my question with this: Do I need to simply do the 4 Junction tasks for each planet? Or ALL of the nodes on that planet? And If I need to complete all of the nodes, how do I tell which nodes Ive completed and which I havent? I did play quite a bit back in the day so I'd imagine most of my star chart is complete.

Quests Ive completed:
The Second Dream
Natah
The Archwing
Once Awake
Vor's Prize
Awakening

Not started:
The Teacher
heart of Deimos
Rising Tide
The Duviru Paradox
Vox Solaries (blurred out?)
The War Within (Blurred out?)
Chans of Harrow (Blurred)
Apostasy Prologue (Blurred)
The Sacrifice (Blurred)
Prelude to war (blurred)
Jade Shadows (Blurred)
Angels of the Zariman (Blurred)
Whisper in the walls (blurred)
The lotus eatsers (blurred)
The Hex (blurred)
The Old Peace (Blurred)

Looking at them, left to right, I guess it sort of tells you which story lines need to be completed first in order to unlock the next content/story line. Ok, not bad.

Next question: Is it safe to assume that by doing these missions in the codex in order, it'll sequentially introduce me to the various progression systems, factions, NPCS, game modes, etc ?

Lastly... Any time I try to come back to the game, I pick Rhino Prime to roll with because he was easy and solid to play with. Yet, I think I'd find him bland and boring right now. Need some recommendations on which WF I should kick off this long journey with. I know fun is subjective but what would yall recommend?

I have every WF and their prime with the exception of:
Baruuk
Caliban
Citrine
Cyte-09
Dagath
Dante
Gara
Garuda
Gauss
Grendel
Gyre
Harrow
Hildryn
Jade
Khora
Koumei
Kullevro
Lavos
Nidus
Nokko
Octavia
Oraxia
Protea
Qorvex
Revenant
Sevagoth
Styanax
Temple
Titania
Uriel
Voruna
Wisp
Xaku
Yareli

My god...so many HAHA. Kind of excited for all the new playstyles. And...did they stop making primes or something? I dont see any primes beyond the ones that I have.

Looking forward to your comments, thanks.

Junctions tell you what tasks to complete in order to advance forward. Completing all nodes unlock Steel Path which is same Star Chart missions but enemy level starts at 100 and all of their stats are boosted +300% and some new features too but I hate it. I don't want bullet sponges or gear check but challenges, something like early Nightwave challenges.

Answer is little yes and no. The game is sometimes bad at explaining stuff even today. Put mouse on everything in the menu and you get extra information. Like this:

Look at their abilities and you should find new favorites. Many warframes have received rework or updates to their abilities.
I can give some ideas because these warframes have been fun a lot.

Dante: Overguard and other buffs and crazy damage
Citrine: Support, CC
Cyte-09: High damage, medium Stealth, Wallhack
Jade: Healer, support
Koumei: CC (She works only in long endurance rounds)
Nokko: Team buffs, CC
Octavia: Damage, Stealth, bad music
Protea: Endless energy, Support
Wisp: Support, I see her in every single mission
Styanax: Damage and Vortex to pull enemies (Similar to Vauban)

They have never stopped. New Prime Access is released every... 4-5 months?

So the good news is you don't need to do anything. Warframe isn't so much a vertical progression game as a do whatever you want one. You already have Volt Prime and a gun you're satisfied with? Then you're done. You don't NEED to do anything.

If you want to power up Volt, you can choose to unlock new endgame features. This all comes from the Main Story quests. They unlock quite a bit and you can do them one at a time to understand those unlocks before progressing to the next. They basically unlock in order as most are prerequisites of each other so you just do them in order. You need to do all of them to get to Old Peace content so might as well make the main quests one of your priorities. At some point you may even reach roadblocks that you need to power up to overcome, especially around Albrech's Lab, but that's when you do some mod farming or endo/credits and gain things naturally. Syndicates and other factions are also important so might as well do all your daily rep grinds to unlock their full stores.

By endgame, you'll have fully modded and formaed frames and weapons of your choosing, maxed Arcanes on all of them, Archon Shards boosting your stats, and a companion that provides loads of utility. Everything else you get in Warframe is more of a side upgrade or additional option you can choose. Necramechs, Archwings, Archguns, Railjacks, all options you should go for eventually.
Warframe is literally the most pick your own progression focus game on the market. You don't have to do anything unless a reward you want is behind a requirement you need to meet.

The only real requirements are, you should finish your star chart, and you should keep up to date on the main quests. The game differentiates between the Main Story and Side Quests, so it isn't too hard to figure out what you need to do.

After that? Just pick a gameplay loop you enjoy.
Blurred out quests are ones you haven't unlocked the pre-reqs for, IIRC. Though weird that Rising Tide is available but The War Within is not since the former is supposed to be a pre-req for the latter.

Anyway, The Teacher is a tutorial quest that takes like 10-20 minutes. It gives you a unique weapon that comes with its own weapon slot so it's worth swinging by when you don't have other things to do or are looking for some more mastery points.

Duviri Paradox takes like... an hours or so and locks you out of most of the game until complete. It's a pre-req for some later things, but nothing immediately. You can tackle it now or put it off as your level of progression has no impact on the quest's difficulty. It unlocks some new game modes and ways to unlock more gear including some Warframes that can be annoying to obtain in their original acquisition method, so worth doing at some point.

Heart of Deimos introduces some of the open world areas and is a pre-req for a lot of later stuff. Not immediately important to do, but the quest and the syndicates locked behind the quest have some very useful gear and features that you'll need access to sooner or later.

Vox Solaris I'm surprise is blurred. Maybe you need to visit Fortuna and talk to some NPCs there? Opens up the Orb Vallis open world area and is a pre-req for some other quests. Also locks away a few syndicates that has some gear and Warframes, but nothing that needs immediate tackling.

The War Within is the next main story quest and has some major features gated behind it, so tackle it whenever you have the chance once its available.. It'll lead sequentially into the other main quests.
