In cases of Comet and Pershing, those tanks can fight P5, but will most likely lose (unless you have good micro in case of Comet and/or good aim in case of Pershing (talking about it's skillshot which can be shot in rapid succesion with the regular one. HVAP also has increased damage and penetration).
Why not? Panther costs 185 fuel, and is one of the most expensive stock vehicles in the game. Also it'd probably make sense that specialised anti-tank vehicle would be good againts vehicles, right?
Dude, you have tank destoryers and AT guns, use them for gods sakes. Developers gave them for a reason.

If the enemy is all out cqb, then pick them off from range. Don't try to outdo them at what they are trying to do.
When you are "not that good" then focus on improving your awareness. Lots of cqb stuff usually just counts on you making mistakes, getting outflanked and overrun, so you quickly lose entire squads. Gather info first, then act on it. Blindly running into such units or leaving a flank completely in the dark will kill you.
Btw this is also a mindset issue. A lot of people don't take the time to properly move around the map. But you definitly should. Send a weak unit out to scout, before your entire army just runs out into the open and gets caught out of postion. Having to frequently retreat will cost you much more time then having a quick look around while the rest of your units is well positioned in cover.
