Fresh install crashes upon loading

Dear all, just trying to see whether I can get still some support on this game. I have not played since 2014 or so and decided to try it again for some reason. But with a fresh install I get the loading screen which mentions a beta 2.4 and 53% loaded before crashing to desktop. I verified and reinstalled, but both do not work. Many other posts speak about previous saves, but since it is a fresh install, it does not help me out there as well.
I would appreciate any help in any direction.

Your not gonna get anything for a game that you cant buy, they abandoned it and betrayed us customers

Although I would not rule it out as a origin of the problem completely, I did buy it before and can recall playing it.

Hey bro, sorry to hear you're having issues. Sounds like the same issue I was having.
Short version:
Basically i think the game is trying to connect to non-existent servers. Try playing offline and see if it works!
