Upgrade System: making the gems feel less like microtransactions
In the past versions of Godus the gems felt purely like microtransactions, you use them to get thigns that you could've gotten anyways through time (except for things like fountains or other things that increase happiness). However tying the gems into upgrading abilities is something I prefer. Instead of having specific cards given to you to upgrade certain abilities you may never use you can decide when and how much you want to upgrade a certain ability. Less microtransactiony in my opinion and gives a better feel of progression in my opinion.

In addition, maybe they should call them something else. Like souls, karma, idea or progress points.

wouldn't call them souls considering you can get them through mining veins of gems, or find them during voyages. You get them from more places than just murder
If you did just get them from murder karma wouldn't make sense considering wouldn't you get negative karma for doing such a thing?
idea points may be better for the stickers, but for a gem replacement makes little sense and im not sure how well progress points would work since a lot of the things you can buy with gems arn't strictly progress

So how do you explain that a god can buy progress with material GEMS? :P ;)

well your not the only god, there seems to be tons of gods and there apparently is some sort of thing called "The Exchange" where you can buy stuff with gems. So it seems like there is some sort of even more powerful being like a titan that sells you things. like a Titan of Merchants... Either that or the gems are filled with ultimate power that allows you to bend the laws of the world and godhood.

I totally agree about the gems. I hate the current system, just seems like a relic from the original concept of having them be microtransactions. Just get rid of the absurd timers and problem solved.

They should change Gems into Tribute.

Your followers give up their lives as tribute. (Forced mind you, perhaps if you do it often they could encourage auto-sacrifice later? Maybe animals too?)

Your miners can mine precious gems and metals which they can offer as Tribute (Mining gems)

Your explorers go out and explore the world and create colonies in your name as tribute. (Gems from voyages)

And so on, naming it Tribute would allow them to expand on it and it would tie in to the basic idea of the more people that believe in you the more powerful you should become. So, the more tribute that your followers give you, then logically, the powerful you should be.
