SteamVR on SteamOS?
Does/will this game support SteamVR on Linux/SteamOS? SteamVR for Linux is currently in beta and I would love to see this game support it. Once it leaves beta I will be permanently eliminating Windows. This is my favorite seated VR game and I will be sad to leave it behind if it doesn't support this.

I'm not sure if Distance has VR support on Linux, though I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Distance doesn't use SteamVR though; it automatically detects your HMD hardware on its own.
Good to know. Thank you for the fast response. Sometime within the next month or so I'll experiment with it and post my results here.
I just got around to testing this and unfortunately it does not detect my Vive and boots into non-VR mode.

Is there any chance we could get a Linux VR enabled build?

*bump*

With Unity 2017.3 and later OpenVR/SteamVR support should just work on Linux. So if Distance is on a new enough Unity version, there should be nothing big blocking a VR release for Linux.

Distance is on 5.5.5p1. Not to say they'll never do it, but I don't think the devs are going to be upgrading to another major version past 5 anytime soon, since the change from 4.6 to 5.0 took nearly 5-6 months to get the physics working correctly again.
At this point, this game is literally the only reason I still have a Windows partition. However, today, that Windows partition will be deleted. This means my days of playing Distance are over unless VR support makes it's way in to the Linux build one day. So long and thanks for all the fish.

it's a shame we don't have VR support and it sucks that we can't even try using steamplay atm. lets hope this gets fixed one day: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/5638#issuecomment-439508412
I've been trying to get this working in Steam Play using a tool called Native2Proton: https://github.com/Holston5/Native2Proton. I have managed to download the Windows version of the game from Linux using that tool. However, I have not yet managed to successfully launch the game. It could very well just be a missing dependency, but I haven't had a chance to fully troubleshoot it.
Best I've been able to do with Native2Proton was get the game to launch, but it freezes at the menu several seconds later. Looking in the logs, it also appears that the game is unable to detect the Vive when run through Steam Play. Looks like Linux users are out of luck unless someone else knows some way to configure Wine to get this working.

Everyone else is excited about Skyrim VR on Linux via Steam Play. All I want is Distance VR for christmas.

Update: I got Distance working in VR on Linux (via Proton)! The instructions are too complicated to post right now. I will try to simplify the process and post instructions within the next couple days.

So, a third party tool called Native2Proton is necessary to get this all working. The original Native2Proton tool does not work with SteamVR, but there is an open pull request to add that here: https://github.com/Holston5/Native2Proton/pull/28

I've noticed that I often get signed out of the Steam client when using Native2Proton, so that's worth mentioning. I think it authenticates as a separate client and Steam probably only lets you be logged in to a single client at a time. You'll need this game's appid (233610) in order to install it with native2proton.

There is a minor performance hit on my 1080 ti.

nice find with the patch, but I'm glad those re-authenticate on steam times are over and I won't go back. every native linux game which has windows VR support should also support linux VR or at least give me the option to launch win-VR via proton. an alternative would be if devs would create a windows only VR entry on steam for everyone who owns the basegame, so we could play the non VR game native and the VR version via proton.

As far as the reauthentication goes, it only happens once during the initial download. Once the game is downloaded the problem goes away, so it's really only a major annoyance if you are using Native2Proton to download games regularly. It even creates .desktop files so you can add them as non-steam games in Steam.
