Overall story.
I wasn't able to play it right when it came out because I was doing dome holiday travelling, but since then, I've been enjoying DotR quite a lot. I think it looks great and has a distinct flavor from the other maps.

The one thing that makes me scratch my head a bit is how it fits into the overall story of the game. Karak Azgaraz and Drachenfels are generally self-contained mini-adventures, but Stromdorf and DotR are a less so, perhaps owing to having just 2 maps..

I guess I had been expecting a little more info about the events that transpired in Stromdorf... With what we know about VT2, perhaps we may conclude who the pact was with, but I still thought we might see a more explicit link within this game. Do we know if anything like this is expected?

Skaven make deal with Chaos. V2 they join forces and attack. Thats it.

yeah, I realize this--- but having a sequel release announcement complete a storyline from the original is a bit odd. I feel it leaves a bit of an unexplained gap-- which would be better at least mentioned within the confines of the first game.

We are getting a final dlc. And again, everything us explained... This is the endtimes, if you don't know any lore that is on you. Warhammer fans would be bored to death if they felt the needto "teach" us.

I am hopeful the final DLC will tie things up then :)
I'm not expecting a lesson in the lore ... but nor do I think FS expects people to be familiar with the lore in order to understand what happens in the game. That would be poor game design (since it's likely most players have little or no knowledge of Warhammer) -- instead, we learn what we need to know about the lore through playing the game = better game design (show, don't tell). Like you said-- it would be boring if FS tried to 'teach' the lore, but by playing it, you learn what you need to know. And more is provided through the lore pages for those interested (and more online for those really interested I suppose haha)

It IS really recommended to know at least some bits about Warhammer if youre interested in the games story. Most locations, if not all and the events are from RPG books only alterd a bit for Skaven and a well known Fan will find a lot of small hints and what not.

That would be the same as saying you play TES Morrowind but its bad gamedesign since you dont get the story, factions etc.

The voicelines and where they are triggered at locations combined with the lorepages do the job well I think.

The majority of the people who bought this game at release was fans. That is true for pretty much all warhammer games. And again, "show don't tell" doesn't really work with lore since there is huge amounts of information. Factions, history, regions, important characters, politics etc.

Fair enough. FS has done a good job then-- I (having no knowledge of Warhammer) never felt I was lacking info during the game in general. To have relevant details that fans can pick up on and appreciate shows that they've done their homework and they themselves have a good understanding of the lore (which I fully expected to be the case!).
I didn't play Morrowind, so I can't comment on that comparison. I have played Skyrim, and I feel like it provides enough information as you play to understand. On a completely different note, I've been playing Warframe a bit lately, and I think it suffers a lot from lack of explanation (in almost every part of the game...lore included) I still enjoy it, but I think it could be improved a lot.
Ultimately, I think having rich lore surrounding the universe a game is placed in is always good-- but the developer needs to use it properly for the game to benefit from it.

Morrowind was just an example, notghing much.

Glad that you had no problems with the lore introdution.

Warframe indeed suffers from it, but there is not so much, well it grew but I didnt bother to check it.

Thats why a proper Warhammer RPG or somekind game like this would be perfect, because lore is already there in a massive collection akin to TES and LotR, but each dev fails with a good representation or a good game nearly each time and were left with this Mordheim and the Total War game.

Its a huge pain really.
Morrowind was actually my first ever TES game, and I didn't find it hard to understand at all.

There's a big and powerful human Empire that has subjuagted this wierd foreign island full of Dark Elves and freaks and monsters, and now the ♥♥♥♥ in the opening cinematic is happening. There you go, story explained.
