QoL modpack has "Mutation" option which mean every regular rat has a chance to become a Stormvermin with some time pass, or every Special rat may became an Ogre. You might encounter that one. Some mods can give every regular rat a shield etc. Just be carefull about modded run - some people like to have a challenge over the Cataclysm
