What I enjoy in sandbox games is usually the trader/entrepeneur role.
I've heard that engineer is great for capturing ships but I don't necessarily want to cheese the game this way.

Would captain or engineer be better for "cargo freighter" type gameplay? :D

EDIT: From what I saw on youtube - engineer seems to be more of a "pirate" themed skillset, whereas commander is more defensive. I guess commander is the way to go :)
