Report a translation problem
I confirmed this by testing both options. I turned off all food production and just ended the turn until the tribe reached the point of starving. Without buying the 30 barley, my tribe gets to the point of starving in early July with 17 food remaining in the stockpile. If I DO buy the 30 barley, my tribe still reaches the point of starving in early July, only with 18 food instead of 17.
