Unfortunately, once you get into the 100 turn range, the game catches on fire and nosedives straight into the ground in a dramatic ball of fire.
Ouch. Do you think this will improve in the near term?
I have no less than a dozen games in excess of 400 turns. YoU Just don’t know the mechanics well enough
For example one of the most common mistakes is going to 18 clans before turn 100. You will starve if you do this
your the only one saying this....i have only one game over 400, using a little known exploit
Look at the posts dude, your the ONLY one claiming this, while everyone else says they starve turn 100.......look round at the posts, are you blind?
You can read my various posts on Steam and conifergames forum if you don't think i know my stuff.
Ohhh I never said you arent a great player(you tottaly miss-understand me)....maybe your the best ever (dunno).....point is you have to be one of the greatest 2-3% to get anywhere in this game, probably only 2-3% of players get past turn 400 i bet!...I did only because im VERY experienced at Jon's games and quickly find the exploits to keep from losing
Dude read what the other 95% (at least)...who cant get past turn 100-200, not once, are posting....you must have?
Look im not saying its a bad game...i like the mechanics
Just saying it needs a tweek patch to give more food so the rest of the casual players can at least get somewhere.
Honestly why would that hurt?....giving double food points to a food resource, would hardly be an I-WIN-Button....but at least give other players a chance to get past 100-200 turns
Also more stone appearing chances would be nice, but i wont hold my breath for that one......so many rolls i dont get stone anywhere near me and im so screwed without it
another one of the objectives was for the environment and the player to be dynamic; by that i mean a nomadic tribe moving around the map, never knowing what you'll get due to the fog of war and constant food pressure. He wanted to force the player into running out of resources and taking risks by moving and then dealing with what they found.
Unfortunately, this second objective was an abject failure; by starting the player out with nothing, like they just washed up on shore, this creates an unreasonable starting position. Tribes during the 7th - 10th centuries AD were self sufficient and produced cash crops for trading. (such as tools, clothing, and home products.)
My personal opinion is that the player should have been given the option to choose tribes based upon their goals and starting positions; whether that be hunters/gatherers, herders, or seasonal farmers. In either case, you would have a reasonable food stockpile and a starting baseline to move forward with. (this would include skilled craftsmen, some raw goods, and some stockpiles of trading goods.) The AI would also get positions, some more advanced and some less.
The end result of failing this objective was that the game was pushed into survival attrition. The first 100 turns are super hard and then nothing. the computer stops playing.
I fully understand how mad ppl r that they can't make it past turn 100; however, they don't realize that they would be much angrier if they could get past turn 100 just to discover that after hours of hard work the game just lays down in front of them and gives up.
I have posted games on the forum (mostly the old forum that Jon deleted), but the new one too. I have 10k of every resource and 10+ fully kitted out knights. it's an odd feeling that you spend 6 hours on a game and then realize you're alone and there's no point in continuing. . The romans wont' fight and the AI is hopeless with all their clans stuck in town or sitting on empy nodes. Half the map is destroyed houses and resources that you cannot fix or recycle.
There is no end game content except to slaughter a helpless opponent, like a gladiator against an unarmed slave.
Ok addressing two of your points
1. Hardcore.....as in the casual gamer will always fail to get past turn 100?....If so i doubt 95% of your buying public will be happy....your choice :/
2. i really doubt that adding food to double will be an I-WIN-Button.....you still have to plan ahead as they will soon exhaust that too anyway, if they dont develop enough skill, and are short-sighted...not getting stone in a roll is a sure loser...but double food will give you a better chance to get the stone going
3. Yea i noticed things do get easier the further you get .....im not sure id call it a walk-in-the park as you seem to be saying...Hey but arent all these Civ type games like that?...i mean in Civ 6 get your giant robots and you smash the other civ AI's...end games always kinda like that isnt it....doubt Jon can pull off making it much different
I mean im waiting to get my first knight and just smash his legions.....i got too greedy my first try and went after him with just lancers....ended up a hopeless stalemate....reloading and being more patient this time as im sure two knights would crush him :/
